The Problem/Goal

Create Differentiating Products in a Competitive Market

After several of K2 Systems’ competitors launched products that included a method for sealing the rooftop penetrations created when mounting systems are installed, K2 knew they had to make a big move to stand out. 

They saw an opportunity to not only keep pace with their competitors but also find new and innovative ways to differentiate themselves. They wanted to offer a more economical, all-in-one mounting and sealing kit.

K2 Systems’ goals were:

• Create a cost-effective, all-encompassing mounting and sealing kit.
• Include high-quality, waterproof sealants designed for longevity. 
• Ensure the kit would stand out in the market, offering better value than a la carte kits from competitors.
  
  

Our Solution

The team at Seal Bond worked closely with K2 Systems to create a state-of-the-art, integrated mounting and sealing kit. While K2 took the lead in designing the kit, our technical expertise played a key role in ensuring the longevity and performance of the sealants used in the system.

We conducted rigorous tests to identify the best sealant formulation for the application. We had to consider adhesion to the cast vinyl Armor form, color matching and accelerated aging. 

The result was a sealant that exceeded all K2’s requirements. We were able to reduce the amount of sealant needed by up to 40% without sacrificing water and weatherproofing performance.

Product Selections 

Our innovation and collaboration with K2 Systems resulted in an integrated mounting and sealing kit within the K2 Armor w/ Big Foot Kit. The kit included Seal Bond®490 Liquid Flashing.
