Joint sealants can prevent air, rain, snow, ice and other elements and debris from entering or exiting a structure while allowing for targeted movement of the substrates. Some sealants are designed to have specific chemical or heat resistance. Sealants are a critical component of both the aesthetics and functionality of building design and Seal Bond™ offers a selection of high performance sealants that can be used in a wide range of construction applications. Typical uses include:

  • Sealing gaps around windows, doors and vinyl siding both during installation or replacement
  • For filling joints in concrete floors both static and dynamic joints
  • Providing waterproof sealing around roofing penetrations and terminations
  • For providing specific chemical resistance such as to fuel or oil in concrete joints

The Seal Bond™ sealants can be differentiated by the following intended use or performance criteria:

Performance Requirement

  • What substrates must the sealant adhere to?
  • Will a Seal Bond™ primer be required or increase performance?
  • What aging characteristics are desired? Exposure to UV radiation? Expected moisture exposure?
  • Cyclic movement considering the specific substrates and environmental demands
  • Movement during curing of the sealant

Desired Physical Properties

  • Movement capability
  • Tear strength
  • Fatigue resistance

Desired Aesthetics

  • Is the sealant for interior or exterior application?
  • Will the sealant be visible?
  • Does the sealant need to be paintable and if so with what type(s) of paint or coating?

Desired Application Parameters

  • Is a pourable (typically self-leveling) or gunnable sealant desired?
  • What kind of pot life and tooling time is desired?
  • How soon does the sealant need to be tack free?
  • If at times low temperature installation is required, at what temperature will the material remain gunnable?
  • What is the application temperature range?
